For the safety and comfort of all our fellow dancers, we insist on correct etiquette at our classes and socials.
The cardinal rule is to respect your fellow dancers and to allow them to feel comfortable.
This includes (but is not limited to) the following:
- Arrive at the class in clean clothes and having washed and used deodorant, and with fresh breath.
- Pay attention to teachers and don't talk while they're explaining moves.
- Be mindful of your partners' personal space, approaching with respect.
- If your partner allows you to dance close, do not abuse that privilege. Keep your hands in a respectful place.
- Focus on your dance partner and not the person you will be dancing with next.
- Respect the level of your partner, and do not teach them or try tricky moves beyond their level.
- When dancing socially, watch out for fellow dancers - especially with hand throws and dips. If your lead is going backwards and about to collide with someone, give them a warning squeeze on the shoulder.
- Feel free to say no if you feel uncomfortable dancing with anyone.
- Above all, be respectful.
